Established in 1965, Seward Fisheries became solely owned by Icicle Seafoods in
1978. Our versatile plant is located in Seward’s small boat harbor, and we
produce vast amounts of canned and fresh/frozen salmon, and high quality fish
meal during the peak summer months. Salmon caviar (Ikura & Sujiko) is also
produced for shipment to Japan. Fresh and frozen halibut, black cod, pacific
cod, and rock fish are produced and shipped all over the country to whet the
appetite of seafood lovers from coast to coast. Seward Fisheries annually hires
over 300 hearty employees during the summer months, and retains a small local
crew to fortify the plants needs during the spring and the fall.
Our small coastal town of
located on the east coast of the Kenai Peninsula, on the west shore of
Resurrection Bay. We are 125 miles south of Anchorage on the breathtaking
Seward Highway Scenic Byway. And can be accessed by the
Alaska Railroad, bus, or
cruise ship. It is surrounded by steep mountains, dominated by 3,022-foot Mount
Marathon. Behind Mount Marathon, and extending down the coast lies the Harding
Ice field, measuring 35 by 20 miles. Flowing from the Harding Ice field are
many glaciers, including Exit Glacier which is minutes away from the plant, and
is a must see for any off work seafood processor.
Seward is known for its scenic views, numerous visitor attractions, and as the
"Gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park". Over 3,000 year round residents call
Seward home; however that number swells considerably during the summer visitor
season. Founded as a railway construction camp in 1903, the city's population
is still primarily non-Native. Our town is famous in Alaska for its Fourth of
July celebration that features a punishing foot race to the top of Mount
Marathon. The area has a maritime climate, so does not get the extremes in
temperature experienced in the interior. Winter
temperatures average 17-38°F., summer temperatures 49-63°F. The annual
precipitation includes 66 inches of rain and 80 inches of snowfall.
Seward, Alaska is a wonderful place to live and work, and more than a few
summer employees have stayed and have made the eastern Kenai Peninsula their
home. We encourage you to join the Icicle Seafoods family in Seward!
